Osram and Lednium sign License Agreement for White LED Technology

Osram GmbH, Germany, and Lednium, Melbourne, Australia, today announced they have entered into a Patent License Agreement covering the use of white LED patents owned by Osram GmbH. Lednium has acquired the rights to use the white LED technology in their Lednium series of LED lamp products.

Lednium¡¯s related unique products are multi-chip geodesic dome shaped LED lamps. The white LED technology developed by the Osram Opto Semiconductors subsidiary and being licensed by Lednium enables white LEDs to be produced with blue emitting InGaN (Indium Gallium Nitride) chips by using a suitable phosphor converter. Osram Opto Semiconductors hold a large number of patents relating to white LEDs and has previously signed licensing agreements with Nichia, Rohm, Everlight, Lite On, Stanley, Harvatek, Ya Shin, Vishay and Samsung Electro Mechanics.

Along with the LED lamp products, there are numerous end product applications available, ranging from architectural lighting fixtures to automotive aftermarket assemblies such as tail lights and clearance lights. Lednium products have been designed and engineered to meet the highest of quality standards on an international level.

Lednium is proud to have won the coveted ¡°Australian Government Engineering Innovation Award¡± in November 2004 for the new design and development of a Solid State Lighting (SSL) technology using Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) as well as winning the ¡°2004 Engineering Excellence Award for Research and Development¡± in Sydney in October 2004
